While the 52 waits in Queensland for delivery to Sydney for more premier racing, Georgia One (the 43) has been retrieved from storage and will be relaunched next week. The boat sports a fresh paint job and a Nick Holroyd designed, more contemporary, rudder. It will compete in Wednesday night racing through summer, building up to the IRC National Championships to be held as part of the Bay of Islands Sailing Week in January 2011. From mast to flagpole

What to do with an aluminium mast from the 43 when it had been replaced with a new, IRC-optimised carbon rig?  Turn it into a flagpole of course.  Erected this week at Jim Farmer's house on the edge of Lake Karapiro by the start of the rowing course and in time for the World Rowing Championships at the end of October.  Photos here show the mast, which was constructed by New Zealand Rigging, being lifted into place by a crane, Jim raising the first flag ( which despite its 2 x 1 metre size looked like a pocket handkerchief aloft) Read more

Jim Farmer to help ensure a 'fair' America's Cup

Jim Farmer – owner of the Georgia Racing boats and Director and Trustee of Emirates Team New Zealand - has been named as Director to the Board of the America's Cup Race Management (ACRM), the body charged in the Protocol with providing "neutral, independent, professional, and fair race management" for the next edition of the America's Cup. Jim, a Barrister and Queen's Counsel, has served Emirates Team New Zealand since 2004, providing legal advice and counsel, and representing it on the Challenge Committee and during protest hearings during the 32nd America's Cup in Valencia.
