Less than 5 weeks to until the annual Hamilton Island Regatta. One of the best in the world for sure. This will be the seventh regatta there that Georgia Racing has participated in beginning with the Corel 45 in 1999. Since and including then, we have always finished between 2nd and 4th in the premium Grand Prix division save for the year when the 43 sailed in Division B, finishing 5th.
The competition this year is likely to be harder than ever with the usual assortment of maxi yachts, 60 and 70 footers and the largest collection of 52s yet in Australian waters, including the well-performed HOOLIGAN, SHOGUN V and a new import, the former BRIBON from the Audi Med circuit, a boat previously owned by the King of Spain.
GEORGIA is now sitting in Mackay, having been delivered there from Sydney by Matt van Kretschmar and his delivery crew. It is expected that they will also deliver the boat back to Auckland from Australia after Hamilton Island. Next big event - Coastal Classic in October.
In the meantime, the 43 (GEORGIA ONE) has continued to perform well in the Winter Series in Auckland, continuing to nip at the heels of the 50s and keeping well clear of the 40s and in-between. Next race is Saturday.
